Dynamic Element Matching With Signal-Independent Element Transition Rates for Multibit ΔΣ Modulators

چکیده
Thispaperpresentsanoveldynamicelementmatching (DEM) technique for multi-bit digital-to-analog converters (DACs). The proposed technique can address errors due to both static element mismatch and dynamic inter-symbol-interference (ISI). The proposed technique ensures no ISI-induced distortion even at large signal amplitudes by de-correlating the instantaneous number of DAC transitions from the signal. It can shape the total number of transitions and whiten the individual transition sequence, thereby significantly reducing the in-band ISI errors. The proposed technique can be easily extended to higher-order shaping for both static mismatch and ISI errors. An efficient hardware implementation based on the vector-quantizer mismatch shaping framework is also presented. Simulation results show that the proposed technique can significantly improve DAC linearity in presence of both static mismatch and dynamic ISI errors.

Efficient determination of feedback DAC errors for digital correction in ΔΣ A/D converters
Feedback DAC errors in a ∆Σ analog to digital converter are determined by measuring the idle channel output and removing the DAC elements one by one. This method requires simple computation, does not add excess loop delay, and requires no reconfiguration of the ∆Σ modulator. The errors so determined can be used to correct the output codes in the digital domain or the DAC elements in the analog ...

I Conclusion: In this Letter, we have shown that the method proposed in [2] could be used even in the case where non-neglectible values of feedback delay are encountered. A very interesting conclusion is that an optimal gain margin may be reached with a nonzero value, i.e. a physical delay value. Furthermore, this delay (higher than one sampling period) allows for dynamic element matching techn...
متن کاملDynamic Element Matching Techniques for Static and Dynamic Errors in Continuous-Time Multi-Bit ΔΣ Modulators
This paper presents techniques to address static and dynamic errors in high performance continuous-time (CT), modulators. The inter-symbol interference (ISI)model is presented and existing ISI reduction techniques are reviewed. A novel technique has been presented which can high-pass shape both static mismatch and ISI error of each element of a multi-bit DAC while decorrelating the instantaneou...
متن کاملQuadrature ΣΔ modulators with a dynamic element matching scheme
This brief presents a new topology of a multibit quadrature band-pass sigma-delta modulator which employs a simple dynamic element matching (DEM) technique in order to reduce the effects of path mismatch, namely aliasing in the signal band of the mirror images of the signal and of the quantization noise. The DEM scheme results in a reduction of the aliasing of the quantization noise mirror imag...
متن کاملA dynamic element matching technique for reduced-distortion multibit quantization in delta-sigma ADCs
A multibit analog-to-digital converter can achieve high resolution with a lower order modulator and lower oversampling ratio than a single-bit design. However, in a multibit modulator, quantization level errors in the internal multibit quantizer can limit the modulator’s signal-to-noise-and-distortion and spurious-free dynamic range. For a CMOS analog-to-digital converter using a flash analog-t...
